United States of America Flag

Every time you pick up the phone to call up your so called Tech-Support or Customer Care for any problems you facing, does it cross your mind that you are going to enter a vicious circle of hold time, calling again n again, tantrums by the Rep and poor communication skills then you are at the right place because I am no stranger to it.’Been there done that’,So if you live in the USA and have problems with your internet service providers like SBC,Comcast,American Online,Verizon,Road Runner,Earthlink,Cox,Charter,Qwest,Cablevison,Embarq or any other then rather than giving them a call just go through these simple steps which they will eventually make you do after hours of hold and wait time. So,why waste time when you can do it on your own and if you still face a problem then don’t worry I am there just mail in your queries or leave a comment and I will get back to you.

Now comes the unbelievable part,if you think you cant handle it on your own which is quite ok considering the fact that you may not have the technical expertise to work with computers or other gizmo’s,then leave your landline number and I’ll call you back at the time you mention in the request that too absolutely free. Now you must be thinking that this dude has gone mad,why would he call us back on his own expense to help us with our problems that too without charging a dime. Then the answer to that is – It’s my passion to help people with their Technical Issues and make use of my Technical Expertise combined with my Natural Aptitude for Electronics.

Now as action speaks louder than words….

So be my guest and give me an opportunity to serve you.

  1. Slow Browsing

Step 1. Speedcheck (log on to www.2wire.com and click on speedometer)

    Step 2. Powercycle Modem.

Step 3. Reset WINSOCK. [Start – Run – CMD – netsh Winsock reset catalog] Modem. Optimize IE. [Delete cookies, Delete Temp. files & Restore Defaults](Click on Tools in IE and then click on Internet Options to clear cache.)

Step 4. Delete Temp & Prefetch folder.[Click on Start – Run – type %temp% - click OK – Select all the files (CTRL + A) – Delete] & [Click on Start – Run – type Prefetch - click OK – Select all the files (CTRL + A) – Delete]

  2. Connect No Browse

(Cable/DSL or Sync light is Solid but unable to Connect)

Step 1. Power cycle the Cable Modem.

Step 2. Check the IP Address. [Start – Run – CMD – OK – Type IPCONFIG – hit Enter]

    SCENARIO 1.

Invalid IP Address: For Eg. 169.254.x.x

    - Unplug the Ethernet cable from the Computer & Cable Modem.

    - Shut down the computer & cable modem.

    - Wait for at least ONE minute.

    - Plug the cable back.

    - Power ON the Modem wait for few seconds and then turn on the computer.

    - This step should resolve it if NOT Reset TCP/IP. [Start – Run – CMD – Ok – type “netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt”] still the same, then

    Check NIC [Start->run->cmd/Command-> route print

Check the no of rows of the IP addresses listed in the result...

If they are 6or7 the NIC card is fine..(We can try un-install and re-install NIC drivers if the Operating is Win Xp)

If they are less than 6, the NIC has gone bad- Contact Computer Vendor

    SCENARIO 2.

Valid IP Address: For eg. 24.x.x.x or any other IP then 169.254.x.x or 192.168.x.x

    - Ping www.google.com

    - If Packets sent = 4, Received = 0 & loss = 100% then

    - Ping google’s IP (209.85.153.104)

    - If Packets sent = 4, Received = 4 & loss = 0% then

Hardcode DNS. [LAN-Right click-Properties-General- This connection uses the following items- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)-Highlight the above option and Click on Properties button- Select the option Use the following DNS server addresses, Enter the DNS numbers of your ISP and Click on OK

It should resolve the issue but if pinging with www.google.com is successful and still no Browse then

    - Optimize IE [in IE click TOOLSInternet options – Delete Cookies – Delete Temp Files – then click Advanced TAB – Click Restore Defaults ]

    - If Still the same, then

Reset Winsock [Start – Run – CMD – Ok – type “netsh Winsock reset catalog”]

Unable to connect some sites

When you connect to some servers, they have to be converted into an IP address in order to connect. A file called HOSTS stores these IP addresses. When the address changes it becomes invalid and you are unable to connect to that website.

To fix this:

1. Close all browsers. Go to Start, Find and select Files or Folders.

2. Find a file called “hosts” (without the quotes) that has no extension and rename it to hosts.bak.

3. No reboot is necessary. The changes are immediate. If this does not fix the problem, then likely it is trouble with the owners.
